Fall Fashion Lookbook Part 1

Wondering what to buy for fall? Well, you are in luck! I am taking you on a tour of my fall shopping haul and how I am incorporating what I have from last year into this year’s rotation. Here is my first look for the season, many more to come! PS- Don’t you love the new shopping feature I installed? Maven is a new site that is like an ultra-easy shoppable Pinterest. I curate style Boards with my favorite trends and you get to shop!

The Slip Dress

I Heart the 90s! Well, not so much. There are a few trends that I mulled over for a minute and realized they were too costume-y for me. The choker? Nope, not in my world. The little backpack? I am on the fence about this ONLY because it is uber-convenient when you have two little kids and need both hands free. The one trend that I am fully embracing is the slip dress.

The reason? I have a crazy long torso and using a dress as a layering piece ensures that I don’t accidentally flash people my love handles when I am on the move. I found a slip dress at Urban Outfitters last week for $29 (shown in
photo above), and it is available in black, nude (a gorgeous blush
color), multi and mustard. If you want a camisole, grab one for under
$20 at H&M…Who What Wear just did a whole spread on lace camis
and included it. Honestly you can head to a thrift store and grab an
old school slip if you are cost-conscious. For a few bucks, you can turn
lingerie into a layering piece.

Wear now: Heels and a long necklace.
Wear later: Over jeans and under a cardigan.

The Slouchy Sweater

I can’t ever find a sweater that keeps its shape. My kids spill stuff all the time, they wipe their grubby little hands on my clothes and I need to be able to wash my clothes almost every time that I wear them.

I found this insanely soft sweater at the BCBG outlet for only $44, and it will be a staple in my fall fashion show (um…I mean my wardrobe. Every day is a fashion show in my world because mixing and matching items in my closet is pretty much the highest form of entertainment for me).

If you are wondering how to style a slouchy piece, remember it is all about balance. Slim layers work well under a voluminous sweater. I am pairing the slip dress with leggings (from Costco- yes, they rock) and open toe booties (Nine West via TJ Maxx) for a sexy take.

The Metallic Mirror Nails

People are going absolutely bonkers for ultra-reflective mirror effect nails. Born Pretty is the most popular brand for this, but their website recently crashed and people are hawking it on eBay for insane prices. There are a couple of substitutes that I have been eying because I don’t want to do the gel/powder/UV light alternative. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Try OPI Push and Shove, essie No Place Like Chrome (featured above) or ella+mia in Mirror Mirror.

The Oversize Earrings

2014-15 saw the emergence of the statement necklace. 2015-16 is all about the statement earring. I absolutely love the tough loveliness of chain fringe hanging off a bejeweled earring. I received my favorite pair from one of my BFFs, Shibani.

On the set of ChicagonistaLIVE! for my ChicStyle Segment

She recently opened up Bombay Taxi Boutique after years of scoring amazing jewelry from India. Lucky for us, she is now importing all sorts of amazingness and making it available to the masses for a fabulous price. I also grabbed a pair at Forever 21 for Diner en Blanc, and they were the perfect complement to my lace Self Portrait-inspired dress.

Happy shopping and cheers to a fabulous fall!

THANK you!!! I pretty much jumped for joy in the store when I found it. I am sure the salesperson thought I was a little crazy, but it is exactly what I had been looking for!
