The Ultimate Guide to Summer Hair Care for Kids

I remember when I was about8 years old, and my friend’s dad messed up on the pool chemicals. My hair literally turned the color of seaweed. I had gorgeous naturally blonde highlights at the time (the ones that yes, all moms covet instead of shelling out $150 on our quarterly touchups), and loved wearing neon green…which totally clashed with my new ‘do.

Fast foward to the present. My kids adore the pool- whether they are honing their dolphin kick at Goldfish Swim School or perfecting their cannonballs at the neighborhood pool, they are big time water lovers.

And yes, since my husband and I both have blonde hair, our kids were graced with light locks as well. Charotte has strawberry blonde streaks woven through her sun-kissed shoulder length bob, and Bryson’s mohawk has taken on the color of corn silk from daily sun exposure. I noticed recently, though, that Charlotte’s color was dull, more mousy with a lot less shine. Bryson’s hair was getting to that straw phase- sticking out in odd clumpy spikes in places because of the lack of moisture.

I was sent the #SplashHappy Summer Box just in time to test out, and my little lovelies are the perfect candidates to see whether the SoCozy Splash line is truly effective.

The box included:

Splash Swim 3-in-1 Shampoo + Conditioner + Wash
Splash Swim Leave-in Treatment + Detangler
Boing Curl Conditioner
Shark Shower Cap
France Luxe Grab & Go Ponies
37 Actives Anti-Aging Cleansing Treatment and Anti-Aging Cream

Love that they included a little something for me (no, I don’t use anti-aging cream on my 3 year old).

Here are my thought on the Splash line, and top tips to keeping your kids hair healthy this summer!

Tip #1:

Hair is porous- saturate the strands with non-chlorinated water before hitting the pool, and they will absorb it, leaving little room for it to absorb chlorine.

Tip #2:

Don’t have the opportunity to soak hair before swimming? Or just want a little extra moisture/protection for their strands? Keep a bottle of conditioner in your pool bag, or use leave-in spray conditioner to protect the hair.

Tip #3:

Want to reduce the crazy tangles that a post-swim always brings?

I tie my little gal’s hair up in a bun with hair ties that aren’t made of rubber (I always have to cut the rubber ties out!). I used the France Luxe Grab & Go Ponies, which worked like a charm! They have a cute bead that covers the seam, so they don’t snag those lovely locks.

Tip #4:

If you can’t wash hair with shampoo, at least douse with a bottle of non-chlorinated water to remove a good chunk of the damaging chemicals.

Tip #5:

I tried the SoCozy Splash Swim 3-in-1, which contains activated charcoal that removes calcium salts, chlorine buildup, and harsh minerals. It also contains antioxidants to remove the chlorine film, jojoba to restore softness + shine and Vitamin B5 to moisturize.

I was shocked at the different color of Charlotte’s hair after using this. It was BLONDE! Honestly, I noticed a massive difference after her hair dried. It also softer, less stringy, and easier to manage.

Tip #6:

After washing, saturate hair completely with a leave-in conditioner. I used the Splash Swim Leave-In Treatment + Detangler, which is a super convenient spray bottle.

I then add the Boing Curl Conditioner on top, popped Charlotte’s hair into a bun, and covered with a swim cap. You can heat up the swim cap for 5 minutes to increase the effectiveness. Leave the conditioner on for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water to seal the hair cuticles. You can re-apply the Leave-In Treatment if needed.

When I pop the kids in the bath, I use the time to take care of my skin. I tried out the 37 Actives skincare products that were in my box- completely luxurious. These are plant-derived and toxin-free, so you don’t have to worry about what you are putting on your skin.

Cheers to a superb summer, and keeping those kiddos happy and healthy!
