Is there one shirt in your closet that you wear on repeat? One that is your default, that works in pretty much any situation? There are items in my closet that still have tags on (a year later….) then there are ones that seem to show up in every photo.
Since most people only wear 20% of their closet, aren’t you curious what those items are? Sharing one of my 20% pieces with you today, and it blends perfectly into any holiday situation! You can grab a similar shirt here on Amazon.
Family Parties with Kids
Although I love to throw on jeans and a t-shirt for many things involving kids, the holidays always call for something a little more elevated since photo opps abound. Finding a piece of clothing that I can move in like a t-shirt but doesn’t have an inappropriate phrase on it like “I’d Rather Be Someone’s Shot of Whiskey Than Everyone’s Cup of Tea” is tough.
Fortunately, this lacy sleeve number does it- long enough to not show off my underwear accidentally sticking out of my jeans, covers my (formerly toned) upper arms, and isn’t showing an inappropriate amount of cleavage to the kiddos. And the price? Currently under $20!
Pair with skinny jeans like the Jessica Simpson Kiss Me version, which is a cotton blend for extra stretch and comes in straight and plus sizes. As for shoes, I opt for sneakers when running after the kids. The key is wearing a solid color shoes like gold, silver, black or these grey New Balance Arishi sneakers. Tip: buy no-show socks that match the color of your shoes. I always have a blanket scarf in the car because one of my kids (or fellow adult) always forgets appropriate outerwear.
Girls Night Out
Family is fabulous….until it isn’t. I try to plan a night out with my girlfriends during the holidays, or at least a date night with my husband to escape the drama and pressure. This shirt is so chic paired with leather pants (which yes, I think women of every age can wear).
Since it comes in a blush color as well, order both to switch it up! The lace neckline lets you go sans necklace so amp it up with fun earrings. Oh and the heels? Go for something that stands out.
Formal Work Party
Work parties can be tricky. You want to convey an air of respect, but not look so dowdy that you loose your sense of style. We attend an annual party for my husband’s work at a elaborately decorated country club, so cleavage and/or thighs are not generally on display. I tucked the shirt into a vintage leather pencil skirt and paired it with red heels, adding a complementary clutch and statement earrings.
Another fabulous trend you can mix the shirt with is a metallic pleated skirt, like this one for under $20. Red lipstick and nails keeping you looking pulled together (and you can keep this combo up all holiday season- it never fails).
