This summer, the kids and I have gone on tons of new adventures outdoors. I have found some wonderful products to make sure we practice safe sun while out and about. Here are my top discoveries this year- make sure to enter the GIVEAWAY at the bottom!
Sunscreen Bands
If you know my family, you know we are on par with Nicole Kidman for pale skin. Blue eyes, blonde hair- we weren’t exactly meant for catching rays. I was able to recently test out Sunscreen Bands– a product that monitors UVA and UVB exposure. You activate the band by exposing it to sunlight, apply sunscreen to both yourself and the band, and the band fades to lavender when it is time to reapply. It then fades to cream when yoiu have hit your max UV exposure for the day. Check out the video for more info:
Here is my little gal wearing one, so yes- they fit everyone!
They are on sale on Amazon: $10 for a 10 pack plus $1 off coupon. Click here to purchase:
Sunology Sunscreen
Anyone else absolutely terrified by the recent warnings regarding the spray sunscreens? With my little ones, I switched the minute I heard that (even though the sprays are infinitely easier to apply to squirmy toddlers…). Sunology is a natural sunscreen that creates a physical barrier against the sun as opposed to a chemical one. The difference? Chemical sunscreens are absorbed into the skin, physical barrier sunscreens reflect the sun’s rays from the surface of the skin. With a 3 year old and a 7 month old, I want everything as natural for their skin as possible- Sunology gives me this opportunity while providing excellent sun protection. It also rubs in fairly well- my kids don’t get the Casper look. One tube lasts a lot longer than a can of the spray stuff! You can purchase it here– there are three different types; Body, Face and Kids and each cost $14.99 per tube. Charlotte has it on her face in this photo here:
Coolibar
I hate to admit this, but I often forget to actually apply sunscreen to my arm and torso. I am so concerned about getting the stuff on my kids that I totally space on it for ME. My solution? Coolibar. They have a line of clothing that is blocks 98% of UVA/UVB rays and is UPF 50+. Bonus- the clothing is absolutely gorgeous. I went to an event where they had a huge rack of Coolibar clothing to check out, and I was already planning my purchases before I knew that it was sun protection. They are having a 25% off sale right now– grab gorgeous pieces for the end of summer and get prepared for next year (or for that beach vacation you will be dreaming about come February…). Here is the dress I have– it comes in navy or coral, comes with a belt and the fabric dries super quick:
They also have super cute hats, packable, floppy, bucket, the whole lineup!
Sun Shade
My little one can only last so long in the sun…like, 5 minutes. The problem? My 3 year old wants to stay at the beach ALL. DAY. LONG. I bought this play shade at the beginning of the summer and have used it dozens of times. It is UPF 50+ and literally pops up in 1 second. It is almost as easy to take down, and it folds into a small, flat circular carrying case. You can anchor it with the 4 included stakes or fill the side pockets with sand. I take it everywhere- the park, the beach, the pool.
