As a busy woman/mom, all too often I hop out of the shower, let my hair air dry and shove it into a messy bun. I am not proud of that look, and I don’t feel like myself all day. I came up with a few shortcuts to keep my sense of style while getting out the door quickly to share with the ChicagonistaLIVE! viewers.
The lovely ladies of ChicagonistaLIVE! hosted an amazing show at the Borris Powell Fashion Showroom, and so graciously invited me to tag along to chat with them on air about summer hair shortcuts. Borris is one of the most energetic, passionate and REAL people I have met in this industry. I can’t wait to showcase some of his work soon- of course I had to purchase a piece from his RTW line. I will be doing a separate profile on him so stay tuned! If you missed the ChicagonistaLIVE! segment on Wednesday where I was a special guest, check out the reel here…I am closer toward the end.
Dry Shampoo
Many women don’t wash their hair every day. On the days where you roll out of bed and still want to look put together, use dry shampoo. Did your mom ever tell you to use baby powder in your hair to soak up excess oil? This is the same concept, only in addition to absorbing oil, it adds body and volume. Plus, my favorite drugstore brand, Batiste, makes amazing scents and even colors to match your hair color. At around $8-$10, it is an affordable staple. I also keep a travel can in my car or purse to refresh my style throughout the day.
TIP: If you know that you are going to be in a rush the next morning- spray your dry shampoo in before you go to bed.
Hair Perfume
Hair holds scent better than anywhere on the body. So why wouldn’t you use hair perfume? I recently discovered Bait Hair Perfume, a scented spray that is specially formulated to use on hair. Since it is free of parabens, sulfates, and won’t weigh your hair down, it is the perfect way to get your second day hair (or even freshly washed!) smelling spectacular all day long.
It comes in four scents- Skinny Dipper (coconut, suntan lotion and poolside), Heart Breaker (cotton candy and vanilla cupcake), Femme Fatale (fruit, vanilla and amber) and Day Dreamer (orange sherbert, coconut and vanilla) and retails for $38 for a 50mL bottle (shown above) or $12 for a sampler- a 3mL bottle of each of the four scents.
Spin Pins
These are my miracle styling tools!! These two little corkscrew-like pins do the work of 20 bobby pins. In 30 seconds, you can have an undone twist at the nape of your neck, or a chic bun at the crown. I always add dry shampoo and even a little hair spray (Elnett!!) to add volume and texture. They even have mini spin pins for half up do’s, and they come in dark and light colors to match your hair. Best for medium to long hair, and all you do is screw them into your bun or twist. I demonstrated a quick bun on air, and you can see the shock and awe from the gals, love this shot!
Want to buy? They are affordable for all budgets (under $10)- made by Goody and sold at most retailers including Walgreens.
Bun Pin
Quite often I retire my curling wand in the summer. My hair falls totally flat and frizzy in the humidity, so why set myself up for failure? I am a huge fan of the top knot, and love adding a little something extra in. I found these Bun Pins by Kitsch originally on Birchbox (I used my Birchbox points- got mine for free!), and I am hooked. They sell for $17.99 on the Kitsch site and add instant glam to a quick bun or top knot. This is the closest thing to a tiara you can wear while not going full on Disney princess.
A massive thank you to the ladies at ChicagonistaLIVE!– MJ Tam, Beth Rosen and Nancy Loo, as well as Alison Ray of So Chic Life. I always have a blast when we get together!
So fun, girlie! Yes – I will see you tomorrow:)
