This weekend is predicted to have subzero temps and some crazy windchill factors so in the words of Nancy Loo- “Don’t be stupid!”
Yes, I often forgo that big ol’ beanie because I don’t want my hair to insane hat head. The static destroys my already less-than-voluminous fine flyaway hair, but I also don’t want to lose my ears to frostbite when I am soaring down the sled hill with my kiddos.
This weekend, I plan on packing up the family and heading to Frozemont (click here for more things to do this winter) for a few runs down the tubing hill. I am rounding up my favorite ways to stay stylish and snuggly warm when battling the elements.
Blinged-Out Hair Band
When your head is basically the only thing showing (we Midwesterners like to wear puffy down coats that stretch from neck to ankle), a little bling on your dome shows that you still care. I found this fabulous knit ear warmer at Francesa’s and have been sporting it all around town lately. Funny- my mom was shopping with me and bought the same one in pink. I am totally down with #twinning with my mom- she rules.
Do you have a plain headband that you already love? Bling it out with a brooch! You can grab one on Etsy, eBay, or in your grandma’s jewelry box.
Russian Cossack Hat
Ok, not going to even pretend I have seen Dr. Zhivago, but I can definitely grab some style advice from the movie. I am LOVING this fur ensemble, this is basically my goal look during the chilly winter months. I picked up a lovely vintage cossack hat on Etsy for under $30, and you can easily grab one on eBay or Amazon for a similar amount.
The only piece I am still scouting for is a fur muff/purse combo deal. They exist. I promise. I had one when I was like 8, and it was EVERYTHING!
Again, drawing my style inspiration from Hollywood hats! Fargo is a movie I definitely have seen, and the hat Peter Stormare wears as he feeds Steve Buscemi into the wood chipper is totally on point. From Rhianna to Jared Leto, fur trapper hats are seen all over LaLa land- yes, a this is a gender neutral option and available in SO many color combinations!
Yes, trapper hats might be a fashion trend, but this is an amazingly practical hat worn by winter sportsmen and catwalk models alike. I grabbed the one I am wearing from Target a million years ago, and everyone laughed at me. Who’s laughing now when my ears aren’t frostbitten and I kinda look all rustic?
A word about winter makeup as well- I love flushed cheeks, and either bright, sparkling eyes (not glittery…nooooo….I mean eyes that POP), or a kick of color on my lips. Also, big statement earrings are a way to show your style, because that is about the only jewelry people might see.
Stay warm, my friends!
