Cooler nights, shorter days…and FALL FASHION. Are you as excited as I am?
I am back with another Fall Fashion Lookbook, this time with a style that you can definitely wear TODAY thanks to the warmer temps. Want to shop my looks? Click the Maven boards and it will take you right to a fabulous selection of exact/similar products with style notes.
Prairie Dress
Alright Laura Ingalls Wilder fans, this is your moment!! The Prairie Dress has hit the fall scene in a major way, but is updated from the layered version of years past. Key featured for fall include mid-calf length to ankle length, tiers/faux layers (no peticoats here!), gathered sleeves, collarless neckline and a nipped waist.
I found the almost perfect version at Target- the sleeves need to be given a little shape so I plan to add some elastic in. You could easily cuff them to achieve a similar look.
Wear Now: Add sandals or heels.
Wear Later: Knee high boots and a sweater over top.
Platform Sandals
Ahhhh the platform. My friend T just got back from Paris and said platforms were everywhere- a sure sign that this trend is here to stay since those Parisians are always way ahead of the fashion curve. Cork and wood are both popular options, trimmed with leather or suede uppers. Yes, you can wear sandals well into the fall. Just make sure your tights aren’t weird at the toe- like, no reinforcement/stitching.
I have the Caitlin Quarter Strap pair from Target and they are THOSE shoes that everyone asks about. Grab them before they are gone!
Wear Now: With dresses and skirts.
Wear Later: Add tights or wear with micro flares.
Merlot Nails
Fall is the perfect time for those dark burgundy and merlot colors to make an appearance! I received Ciate London’s Paint Pot in Dangerous Affairs in my ipsy Glam Bag last month, and am loving it! This beauty subscription box is only $10/month and is more on target than any I have received (Birchbox, looking at you…). It contains deluxe samples and full-size beauty products, and is always worth more than you pay. I have found a LOT of my new fave beauty must-haves through ipsy! Sign up here.
Wide Brim Felt Hats
Bad hair day? Lucky for you, the wide brim felt hats are back in action this fall! Make sure it is a bit floppy so you don’t go all Carmen San Diego/1950s detective. Add embellishments if it is too plain for your taste- a wide velvet or grosgrain ribbon, a vintage pin, or even a feather can be fun. I grabbed this little emerald number from the Aldo outlet for $5- it was buried in a mixed accessories bin under a table.
If you subscribe to the PopSugar Must Have box, they sent out a spoiler that every September box includes Jack & Lucy Bicostal Hat. I usually despise spoilers (I mean, what is the point of a SURPRISE subscription box then?), but PopSugar is scarily on-target when it comes to things I was going to purchase anyways. Grab it here, you won’t be disappointed!
Structured Top Handle Bags
The slouchy boho bags are cute, but what I really adore are the structured top handle bags! They are such an elegant throwback with updated details. The bag I get the most compliments on? My camera bag!
This is from Cheeky Lime and is available in green, orange, blue, red, silver and purple. It has padded compartments for your lenses, filters, etc… and a zippered compartment for your cash, credit cards and makeup. I have found some adorable structured bags at thrift stores as well for under $10- real leather, metal hardware, quality construction.
The Choker
Ohhh so on the fence about this one! I asked my Rocksbox stylist to send me a choker so I could at least give it a try without investing money in a passing trend. And yes, it will pass. This is what I love about Rocksbox- I can try something new and send it back if I hate it. If I love it? I can keep it at a discount. Make sure to utilize the stylist- I let them know what events I have coming up and what trends I want to try.
Want a free month? Enter code CHERYLBFF54 at checkout. You get unlimited jewelry rentals EVERY month, 3 pieces at a time, and it is only $19/month. Their stuff is from boutiques and designers and they are always getting new on-trend pieces in. As for the choker, I say deviate away from the traditional leather or velvet throwback pieces and update it with gold or silver!
Style Tip: Wondering what metal to wear? Look at the buttons, zippers, or other embellishments on your dress, top or pants. You can see here that I took a cue from my buttons with the gold.
I hope you and try a new trend and fall in love with it! Remember- fashion is all about FUN!
