What Women Want for Valentine’s Day

I am not typically one to invest much in lingerie, much less request it for Valentine’s Day. When you hit the age of 35 with two little kids, sexy undergarments drop a little low on the priority list. I took a look in my top drawer lately and was a little sad at the pile up of not-so-cute undergarments that I was not-so-excited to wear.

Time for a change.

Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I decided to take a little poll about what women want vs. what men want to buy them in terms of lingerie. The results aren’t exactly shocking, but interesting to me nonetheless.

Here are the questions I asked:

Ladies, what would you like your significant other to purchase for you in terms of lingerie?
vs.
Guys, what would you like to purchase for your significant other in terms of lingerie?

And each gender had the same answers to choose from:

• Something sexy, lacy and revealing…leaving nothing to the imagination  
• Something practical, like flannel pajamas  
• Something sweet, like a silk romper 
• Something useful, like a great but basic bra  
• Something pretty yet wearable/functional, like lace designer panties 

Results:
100% of the guys responded something sexy, lacy and revealing.

50% of the ladies responded something pretty yet wearable/functional.
33% of the ladies wanted something sweet.
17% of the ladies wanted something useful. 

So, obviously there is a disparity in what women want vs. what men want to get them. It is hard to find a happy medium, but I definitely found some great candidates at Chantilly Lace in my hometown of Wilmette.

I was absolutely blown away when I walked into the store- instead of stuffy floor-length Victorian nightgowns, I encountered cheeky, adorable PJ Salvage modal lounge sets which I would snap up in an instant. Instead of rows and rows of nude-colored sensible bras, I discovered every color, texture and design from incredibly sexy to practical yet pretty. Bella, the store manager, is the best fitter I have encountered. With a few quick whips of the measuring tape, she nailed my size and knew how each line ran.
