What the Vampire Spa Treatment is All About

Since October is the spookiest month of the year, I decided to try one of the creepiest new beauty services to see what all the hype is about.

I was inspired when I watched my favorite show, Odd Mom Out, and saw Jill and her BFF Vanessa test out the Vampire Spa Treatment (aka the Vampire Facial):

You might have also seen Kim Kardashian getting one:

Or Real Housewife Lisa Hochstein who underwent the procedure to help promote her hubby’s plastic surgery practice.

I decided that I wanted to see what normal, everyday people do with this procedure, when it isn’t done just for clicks and likes. I asked a friend if there was a place to go in Chicago, and she told me about VITAHL Medical Aesthetics in the West Loop. Now, I needed to make sure this place was legit- they are in fact drawing blood so cleanliness, professionalism and strict guidelines are my top priorities.

I arrived to my appointment slightly nervous- what if I walked out of there looking like the Crypt Keeper? I don’t want to terrify my kids unless it is for my own personal gain (clean your rooms or else!).  I sat down in the chair and started asking a million questions of my aesthetician. VITAHL is a physician owned and operated medical aesthetics practice with an
emphasis on physician regulated non-surgical aesthetic treatments. Why does that matter? You have someone with an actual medical degree regulating the treatments! Here is the 411 on what the procedure entails:

  • The clinical term for “Vampire Facial” is PRP Facial– it stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, and refers to the platelets that are separated via a centrifuge.
  • The skin needs to be “disrupted” first in order for the platelets to enter the skin, so microneedling is done prior to application.
  • The platelets are a natural way for your skin to regenerate collagen and elastin on your face, the two ingredients that help combat the signs of aging, wrinkles and loss of volume.
  • This procedure can also help minimize the appearance of scars- acne, chicken pox (me!) and other.

Deep breath. Here it goes!

This is what the separated blood looks like:

This is me walking out of VITAHL…a little scary but not totally terrifying.

If you want to learn more about the procedure and see a full video of the treatment, head to Chicago Parent where I reported in depth. And yes, I was makeup free…which could be terrifying enough in itself!

Disclosure: I received the PRP treatment for review purposes from VITAHL, but all opinions are honest and my own as always!
