Aging is inevitable. Then why does it bother us so much? The global anti-aging market is supposed to reach a trillion dollars by 2025. People are spending a TRILLION dollars trying to look younger. Extreme? Yes. Unreasonable? It is all relative. I am sharing my top anti-aging tips today in hopes that you find something to love the skin that you are in.
I am ok with getting older since, in fact, it is a privilege denied to many. I can’t help wanting to look my best, though. This week, I am focusing a lot on learning to accept the things I cannot change, but realizing that if something is truly getting in the way of your happiness and can be changed, then DO IT. I don’t think I am a superficial person, but I do take a lot of pride in the way I present myself to the world. I do know that looks aren’t everything, not even close…but I know that I feel better inside when I am proud of how I look on the outside.
There are some top anti-aging tips to slow down the aging process, and here are the ones that I have found to be most effective.
Eyebrows
Thinning eyebrows are a side effect of the aging process. I am going to cry a little here, but I noticed my first GREY EYEBROW hair the other day. I mean, I have no clue what color the hair on my head is because I highlight the hell out of it every few months, but I didn’t think I would find grey for at least another 5 years or so. There are a few things you can do to beef up those brows. And yes, everything I use is from Anastasia. She hasn’t let me down yet!
Why I love it: This super slim micro pencil comes in 10 different shades, which almost guarantees a perfect match. Make sure to use fine, short strokes to mimic actual hair when filling your brows.
Anastasia Brow Powder Duo- $23
Why I love it: This duo is smudge-resistant, and the fact that it includes two colors ensures an ideal match. Use an angled brush to apply- I always use brow stencils to make sure they are even. Foolproof, right?
Brow Stencils- $3.95
Why I love them: This might seem obnoxious to some, but brow stencils changed my brow game. These are a perfect size and shape for my face.
Sunscreen
Ask almost any esthetician, and they will say sunscreen is the #1 anti-aging product to use. Gone are the days of basking under the rays for a golden glow. Now, I head to a spray tan salon and slather myself with sunscreen on the daily.
Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum- $42
Why I love it: This is light enough to wear underneath makeup and contains an anti-aging/UV damage serum to help repair skin. This is paraben, fragrance and oxybenzone free.
Food
Barology Anti-Aging Bars for Women- $38.94/dozen
For breakfast, I don’t have time to actually sit down and eat something on a plate. Yes, I should wake up earlier. Yes, I should take vitamins. Yes, I should make my health a priority. I know.
Why I love it: I tried out Barology Bars for my on-the-go breakfasts over a week time span. They are the first bars formulated with NIAGEN®, which is a next generation form of Vitamin B3 called NR. There are three different types of Vitamin B3 which each have fairly different effects upon the body. NR is the only one that actually “turns on” the longevity promoting proteins and and optimizes the anti-aging mechanisms of the body. Yes, a lot of science involved, but for me this translates to my desire to eat all-natural food than choke down a bunch of vitamins. I think a lot of health problems can be controlled by diet.
The Barology Bars actually taste good, and this is coming from someone who has thrown multiple boxes of breakfast bars away because I am super picky. I sampled the Blueberry Almond bars specifically formulated for Women, and found that they actually helped me get over that 3pm slump where I usually chug as much iced coffee as possible so I can make it to bed time. I had enough energy to forego the coffee chugging on the days I ate the Barology Bars.
Bonus- the founder and inventor is a woman (Jill Spatz, RN, MSN) from Highland Park, just up the road from where I live!
Grab them here, they are available in Dark Chocolate Cherry in addition to the Blueberry Almond.
Moisture.
Sounds basic, but moisture combats wrinkles. Wrinkles are caused as the skin ages, becomes less elastic, drier and thinner. So how do I add a crazy amount of moisture to my skin?
I slather on some amazing products at night. When I say slather, I practically slide off my pillow I put so much stuff on. Nope, not an attractive look, but it is incredible the difference it makes. When I have had too many cocktails and crash without dousing my skin in stuff, I look like I have aged overnight.
Here’s what I use:
Night Face Cream
Farmacy Firming Night Balm- $48
Why I love it: This goes on like a gel and I can still feel traces of it on my skin in the morning, which means it hasn’t totally evaporated overnight like most other creams. Plus, it is formulated with naturally-derived ingredients so I am not putting chemicals on my face.
Eye Balm
One Love Organics Vitamin E Eye Balm- $49
Why I love it: Maybe
I am a total idiot, but every time I put a cream or serum near my eyes, it finds its way into my actual eyeball. And stings. For a long time. Balms stay put, which means that they are doing their job where you apply them. I apply the balm on my brow bone and just in front of my temples, using my ring finger and tap-tap-tapping instead of rubbing it in. This helps ensure you are applying it gently to the super-sensitive skin around your eyes.
Sheet Mask
MustaeV Mood Therapy Masks- 4 for $16
Why I love them: Bynow, most of you have heard of sheet masks. When you walk into a store,
which of the million versions do you buy? I recently attended The Makeup Show and celeb makeup artist James Vincent touted these as his go-to. He gives them to models before every show to prep their skin and get that gorgeous glow prior to his stunning makeup application. MustaeV
is a prestigious Korean makeup and skincare company, based in Cheongdam…which is considered the beauty mecca of Korea….and Korea is considered the beauty mecca of the world at this point. SO do the math- you are getting the best of the best.
Eye Treatment
Exuviance Intensive Eye Treatment Pads- $49
Why I love them: The first wrinkles most women notice are those annoying crow’s feet. Yes,
you can use eye serums, creams, lotions and potions, but these eye treatment pads keep the antiaging treatment where it belongs. Pop these pads on up to 3 times a week (I do it weekly) and notice those crow’s feet fading.
Neck Cream
Strivectin TL Advanced Tightening Neck Cream- $95
Why I love it: Strivectin is at the forefront of the anti-aging game. This neck cream, which helps improve elasticity and visibly lifts the skin is the only product I used that I can actually notice a difference. This is the #1 selling neck cream, and at $95 a jar it better work, right? It does go a long way, and I recommend smoothing it down to your decolletage area as well since this frequently shows premature signs of aging. I have used this cream for a few weeks now and notice a visible difference in how tight the skin is on my neck. Make sure to apply all lotions, potions, serums,
etc… in an upward motion.
Whatever your anti-aging regimen is, I hope we can all enjoy aging gracefully!
