Yes, I am fully aware that the ground is covered by a massive quilt of snow. Yes, I know I am talking sandals when snow shoes are more in order. Too damn bad. I am moving forward with spring even if Mother Nature just gave me the big fat middle finger.
I am on ChicagonistaLIVE! today talking spring style and beauty trends. As always, they are affordable, not completely ridiculous, and FUN!
First up, colored eyeliner! I think I used to have some of this in the 80s, but you can keep it fresh and current by wearing neutral shades on the rest of your face and keeping your hair sophisticated (no pigtails or girlie barrettes, por favor). There are a few ways to wear colored eyeliner. The easiest is just to line the top lid with a bold color like turquoise or violet and add mascara. You can also just line the lower waterline towards the outer corner of your eye for a flash of color. Want to look runway-worthy? Do a bold line above the crease of your lid, mimicing the shape of your eye. You might look like Jem from Jem and the Holograms, but hey- at least you won’t blend in!
Next up, pom poms!! Brightly-colored balls of fluff that add a festive element to any outfit. I grabbed this gorgeous Rainbow Pom Pom Tote from T&J Designs (Tiff and Jen are Chicago sisters, bloggers and designers). I mean…what could be more perfect for spring than THIS? The only issue is that my 3-year-old has commandeered it for herself. Guess I will have to grab another.
Want the same theme for your shoes? Target has these adorable gladiator sandals for under $30! When the pom pom trend is over, you can easily remove all of the charms.
Want something with a heel? That good old block heel style from the 90s is baaaaaaack!! It is a million more comfortable than a stiletto, and can go from casual to upscale chic depending upon what you pair it with. These are from the Who What Wear collab with Target, which is where a massive chunk of my wardrobe comes from.
If you have had enough pom poms and bright colors, go simple and geometric with your jewelry. I received these gorgeous ear jackets in my spring Rachel Zoe Box of Style subscription box, and I will be wearing them on the daily. They are incredibly versatile- you can wear the set, or remove the ring and just wear the bars. I am all about more classic jewelry shapes this season, but with a twist. Add some movement, go for rose gold, get oversized, you name it!
PS- the RZ Box of Style is amazing. I always receive something that I “can’t believe I lived without” previously. The value of the box is usually around $400+. Go ahead. Treat yourself here.
My amazing friend Shibani, owner of Bombay Taxi Boutique, has an amazing selection of geometric jewelry for a steal! She started her jewelry boutique as a way to bring her love of sparkle and Indian culture to her friends and readers. The pieces below are perfect for everyday wear, or as a complement to a statement necklace. All of the earring pictured here are $15, and the necklace is only $25. Many pieces are limited, so jump on them if they catch your eye! If you subscribe to her newsletter, you get notification of new pieces in advance; subscribe at the bottom of her shopping pages!
