First of all, thank you to everyone who fave me suggestions for the perfect red lipstick. I didn’t realize just how controversial, personal and important this topic was! I received over 15 recommendations in just a few short hours.
Here’s the funny thing. I KNOW how to apply red lipstick, I’ve even written about it (see my 30Second Mom tip). My problem was where to start when picking out the color. When shopping with a toddler, you need to be ready to make a break for it as soon as the first shopping-induced temper tantrum hits. My poor kiddo had been already dragged around the mall that morning in my quest to find a dress, so by the time we hit up Sephora I could already see tide of compliance turning.
I took three of the suggestions from my friends:
Here are the colors from top to bottom
Sephora Pure Red Color Lip Last- $12
Bobbi Brown Red- $24
Nars Red Lizard- $26
I truly wanted to try out MAC because my beauty experts recommended it, but unfortunately for me it was on the other side of the store and well…I had a limited time. My friend and makeup artist Vanessa Valliant of Vanessa’s Art of Beauty recommended MAC Red, and my other makeup artist friend Stephen Dimmick of The Daily Dimmick had previously recommended MAC’s Russian Red and Ruby Woo when I wrote about Red Carpet Lips for 30Second Mom.
(Oh, and by the way, the bracelet is my fave new find from Simple Addiction)
And the winner is?
Well, I am pretty cheap. I’ll admit it. I went for the Sephora Pure Red!
Now, this isn’t too bad for a first time TRUE red wearer is it? I didn’t have to reapply all that often through the night, but since it was a matte lipstick my lips tended to dry out a bit. I made sure to carry an excellent lip brush with me, though, because I have seen the disaster that can occur if the slightest mistake is made with a direct application.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!
This is such a fab colour. My ALL time fave is Ruby Woo by MAC. It's the most heavenly matte red ever.
On that note, I MUST give in to the urge to go by another red, this time…Ruby Woo is on my list! Thanks Stephen!
I definetly should break out of my comfort zone and try red. On a different note, I love the bracelet!!!
You have the perfect olive-y skin for red lipstick! I think it would look great- maybe for a night out with martinis??
