Maternity Fashion Battle Royale: Kim vs. Kate

Duchess Kate is hands down the most adorable, classy and graceful pregnant woman. Ever.

THEN we have Kim Kardashian, the Fresh Princess of Bel Air. Umm…I probably wouldn’t call her any of the adjectives above, but she is certainly entertaining in her own way. Congrats to her, though, on the delivery of her baby girl today, although I doubt she will be loaning Kate her maternity castoffs.

When I heard that they were due on the same day (July 11th for anyone that cares) I had to laugh. They couldn’t be more different in personality OR maternity style. Let’s take a stroll through their biggest hits and see how we commoners can re-create them, shall we?

Spot On

Polka dots are classic. Everyone from Minnie Mouse to Marilyn Monroe have worn this perfect pattern, and Kate is next in line don the dots. She looks great in this affordable Topshop dress, but of course it is sold out everywhere. Find a similar dress in a forgiving shift dress shape at other inexpensive retailers. It might not last you all 9 months, but you will definitely be able to wear it post-baby!

On Kate: Topshop- $76 vs. Forever 21 Contrast Polka Dot Shift Dress- $19.80

Black and White Done Right

Although Kimmy K has made some er…inelegant choices, I do agree with her decision to scrap traditional maternity wear and sport non-maternity clothing. This black and white graphic print maxi dress is ideal- the alternating pattern draws attention away from any unwanted lumps or bumps. I actually bought an extremely similar dress from T.J. Maxx for $19.99 last week. Check out the moderately priced version below:

Kim’s dress: DKNY- $195 vs. Black & White Striped Maxi- $34 on Venus.com

Baby Blues

Ok, here’s a shocker: the Princess recently chose a dress that a. YOU can afford and b. Is in stock! (Blue is currently sold out, but you can still purchase Ecru, great summer color). Kate wore this belted Asos dress, accessorized with a purple button down cropped sweater and slingback heels. At $42, I say grab it before it is gone!

Asos Maternity Dress- $29.70
