Alert. Alert. Mother’s Day is THIS SUNDAY.
Forgot? Remembered but simply didn’t have time to get a thoughtful, worthy gift of the incredible super mom in your life? Here are my hand-picked items and experiences that show you care, but also manage to give mom exactly what she wants.
A Night Away
One of the best gifts I have received in my life is the gift of solitude. Quiet. Calm. AND A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP.
My suggestion? Book mom a room at the Four Seasons for a night this
summer. Yep, she deserves it. If you want to include the family for a
bit, have the kids visit for their Fun in the City packages which
include in-room movie and popcorn PLUS a visit from the Ice Cream Man,
then whisk them home to let mom relax.
You can bring them back to have a
swim in the gorgeous skylight pool before checkout.
PS- they also have a Kids Clubroom open from 9am until 9pm daily where they can play foosball, board games, arts and crafts and more.
Jewelry She Will LOVE
Ok, can I just be honest here? A lot of men don’t know where to shop for jewelry. They either go for inexpensive and easy via Amazon, or overpriced and impersonal at a local jeweler’s. Kendra Scott is the perfect mix of on trend yet classic, affordable yet high quality.
I will be showing off a few pieces on Fox this Mother’s Day at 7:45am and giving genius styling tips on these multi-functional beauties. Here are some of my favorites from their current collection, and PS- all Chicagoland locations will be giving a free gift with purchase- Oakbrook is giving a free bouquet with $150 purchase, Southport has a build-your-own-bouquet bar and a calligrapher to personalize it, and the Michigan Avenue store is partnering with Garrett’s Popcorn (YUM).
Make HER Dinner Regularly
If mom’s responsibility is making dinner for the family on the daily, make HER dinner one night a week. If you don’t know where to start (and especially if you want to involve the kids), try a meal delivery service like Home Chef. There are a ton of services out there, but Home Chef stands out to me for a few reasons:
- They now have 16 rotating menu options, which means they have 75% more options than competitors like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh
- 5 Minute No-Cook options can be assembled by the kiddos in 5 minutes or less and don’t require culinary skills
- They cater to a wide range of dietary preferences
Here are a couple of sample menu items from their lineup:
Home Chef also shared a perfect recipe for an at-home brunch for mom this Sunday- Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes and Mom-osas!

Flowers for Good
Charity + flowers = perfect gift. Flowers for Dreams is a Chicago-based locally-crafted bouquet delivery service that gives 25% of their profit back to different local charities each month. PLUS- bouquets start at just $35 and are hand-delivered for FREE by people on bicycles.
They have delivery still available for Mother’s Day, so order one of these gorgeous bouquets and surprise mom with a note letting her know that a portion of the proceeds went to benefit these charities in Chicago:
Nostalgia and Theater
Moms love spending time with their family, and what better way to treat her than enjoy a classic play with her? Wizard of Oz is in Chicago for a limited time (May 8-20)- grab a group of tickets for the whole family- this is a performance all ages can enjoy together. It is one of the most memorable stories ever told and has become a shared experience for over four generations. You can gift tickets to great grandma, grandma, AND mom!
Homemade for Mom
My favorite gifts are the ones that my kids create themselves. If mom wears earrings, the kids can whip up an earring holder or pencil holder with decorated popsicle sticks. I am a fan of functional crafts that serve a purpose so mom can smile every day that she uses them!

Cheers to celebrating Mom and showing her how much you love and appreciate her!!! (And making sure her glass is topped up ALL. DAY. LONG.)
