Big News: My New Gig

Once in a while, people ask me why I do what I do. I don’t make a living from this blog believe it or not. Starbucks money? Maybe. Shoe money? Once in a while.

The reason I do what I do is fairy simple. I want women, moms in particular, to feel good about themselves. Sure, there are other reasons I blog, write, post on social media, but the common thread is building moms up and letting them know that they are WORTH IT. Trying a new lipstick might not seem groundbreaking, but for a mom who hasn’t done something for self in days, weeks, months…trying a new lipstick is a step towards finding out who she is again.

Because, yes. When we have children, we gain a new identity. Mom. Sure, we are still ourselves- amazing at karaoke, obsessed with Scandal, a shoe hoarder. Everything changes, though. Those nights we used to stay up ’till 2am belting out Jack and Diane? Now we are up at 2am comforting our kiddos. Those Scandal marathons? Replaced by Frozen marathons. Shoe hoarding? Now your budget goes towards mini Mary Janes instead of Manolos.

This is why I am beyond (like, BEYOND) thrilled to announce that I am a new member of the Chicago Parent Magazine team. My monthly column will deal with everything related to style for moms- clothes, accessories, beauty, self-care. I have been an avid reader of Chicago Parent for years. From Tamara’s insightful and personal editor’s note to Marianne’s hilarious and truthful accounts of family life to Keely’s incredibly well-written insider info about what’s happening in our area, I adore every word.  (If you don’t read Keely’s blog Lollygag Blog, hop on that train). As editor Tamara O’Shaughnessy eloquently stated in this month’s note, Chicago Parent is simply a resource to help you be the best parent you can be. I can’t think of a better organization to align with, and I am honored to now be a part of their award-winning team. An edited version of this month’s print column can be found here.

This month’s column deals with new spring trends to try. As we emerge from the gray, gloomy cover of winter a fresh start is in order. Big, bold blooms, showing some shoulder and statement earrings are my top three trends to try…and yes, YOU can.

So, this is what I ask of you my friends. What information is going to help you? What do you want to know? How can I decode style mysteries for you?  I had a conversation with two moms yesterday morning- one a TV Producer and another a Communications Manager- and I asked what they wanted to know about. I was giddy when their request happened the exact topic of my Chicago Parent column next month. (And no, I’m not telling). THIS is why I do what I do- the pure joy that accompanies helping other people.

Pick up a copy of Chicago Parent Magazine because they are, as the Parenting Media Association notes, “…like that smart friend who always knows what’s going on…an indispensable guide for parents in the Windy City.”

Thank you for reading. I greatly appreciate all of the support, kind words, and genuine love my friends have shown throughout the years. CHEERS!!! Let’s celebrate!
