Cover ups haven’t been high on my list of priority purchases. I mean, you wear it knowing you will be taking it off pretty quickly. It is kind of like fancy lingerie 😉
Caftans and cover ups are a multipurpose part of your wardrobe, and if you are only wearing them to hit the beach or pool, you are missing out! Here are 3 ways I style my caftan outside of the sun-soaked swim scenario.
I snagged this Michael Stars caftan from the Rachel Zoe Summer Box of Style, and couldn’t wait to style it!! In order to take this from day to night, I added a short black slip dress under the caftan. I wrapped the tie around my waist and created a bow in the front. I then added cream fringe earrings, a gold and cream double beaded strand, and cream mules to complete the look.
You can switch up this look by adding a belt, heels and different accessories! This gives the outfit a little sexier vibe. Secure your hair in a messy bun at the nape of your neck and add big gold hoops. I also popped on a lariat necklace that snakes underneath the slip dress.
Preppy Pop of Color
This is a cropped caftan, which is ideal for daytime looks. I added white jeans from Ella Louvi which have the perfect amount of stretch and a mid-rise waist. I tied the band into a bow and placed it to the side. Underneath, I added a hot pink Coobi bra to prevent sneak peeks into the kimono sleeves. Gold open toe sandals keep the look from getting frumpy.
Pretty in Pink
Newsflash- dresses can turn into tops by tucking them into a skirt! I added a high waist knife pleat midi skirt over this caftan and created a FUN, colorful outfit. And the earrings? Long pink tassels make a festive addition (and they are from H&M, so not a big investment). I kept the footwear simple with nude Ivanka Trump almond toe heels, which elongate your legs without adding color confusion to the outfit. I slid the bow to the back, and covered up the black band on the skirt. A low poufy ponytail keeps it simple.
How do you style your caftan or bathing suit cover up? Enjoy this gorgeous weather and live up the summer!
