3 Unique Birthday Party Ideas

I am all for the bounce house birthday party set-up. It is a well-oiled machine: move in, play, get cake, move out. If your kids are like mine, though, they are looking for something outside the bouncy box. Here are three unique birthday parties in Chicagoland where your kids can laugh, think, and leap.

Comedy Sportz

If your child likes a good chuckle, Comedy Sportz is an ideal place to plan a party. Their shows are completely family-friendly and interactive, and have been in the funny business for 30 years. They were founded on the idea that comedy should be for everyone, and avoid the ironic or cynical humor that is ever present in many routines. Group discounts and private parties are available, and full bars with no drink minimum are available (hello, parents!). I brought Bryson, my 6 year old, to a 30th anniversary show and he was enthralled.

Location: 929 W. Belmont; at Belmont stop
Website: www.cszchicago.com
Ages: ideal for 8+
Party Size: Theater holds up to 137 audience members
Cost: Groups of 15 or more can get discounts on certain shows; $30 per person for private shows

Bit Space

Did you take shop class? My middle school offered it, and it was my absolute favorite. Kids naturally love tools, but they often don’t have a safe space to use them. Bit Space provides an environment that allows children access to make something real, eliminating the availability, complexity and danger potentially involved the process. Besides the basic hammers, saws and screw drivers, Bit Space offers tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters and computer aided design software.

Location: 2541 W. Lawrence
Website: bitspace.camp
Ages: 6+
Party Size: Small= 10, Big= 25+
Cost: Small– $550 for 3 hours (10 kids), $25 each additional kid; Big– $550 for 2 hours, $25 each additional kid

Windy City Ninjas

If your kids are climbing the walls (literally), there is a space that is designed with them in mind. Windy City Ninjas is a challenging obstacle course determined to help individuals overcome, persevere and achieve. Their 10,000 square foot space gives children plenty of room to explore American Ninja Warrior-type activities. Parties include professional support and a timed obstacle course race; kids can enjoy open time and coordinated activities.

Location: 2500 W. Bradley Place
Website: windycityninjas.com
Ages: 5+
Party Size: can accommodate large parties; the entire gym is reserved for parties
Cost: $450 for up to 20 children; $20 per additional child

What unique birthday party ideas have you come across? Cheers to making a mess somewhere else and coming home to a clean home after the party!
