The Perfect Lipstick for Gals Who Hate Lipstick

Ok, I'm saying it: I. Hate. Lipstick.

I have tried SO many brands, shades and formulas that I truly feel like I have fully explored this makeup phenomenon before declaring my hatred for it. You see, every time I wear a "normal" lipstick one of two things happen:

1. It dries out my lips so bad that I could qualify for a Chapstick commercial.
2. It just comes off. Like, in 2 seconds.

Yes, I use all the tricks- I exfoliate with my toothbrush, I slather my lips in Vaseline before going to bed, I even use a "lip mask" treatment, lip primer and an occasional liner. Nope.

The thing is, I looked washed out a lot, especially with not seeing the sun in oh, 6 months. Finally, after years of searching, I found a product that I actually LIKE to wear:

So I did a test run. I applied Fuchsia Orchestra (below, which although it looks so incredibly bright, just WORKS...and very in this season if you care about stuff like that) in the morning- pre-coffee and pre-breakfast. I then went and scarfed down a banana and yogurt and a massive cup of coffee (one-handed, while feeding my infant and making waffles for my toddler, ah the life of a mom) and I still had lipstick left! Yes, a bit of transfer onto the coffee mug but not enough that I had to re-apply. Around lunchtime, the majority of the lipstick was gone but a pretty-looking lip stain still remained and my lips weren't totally dried out.
Bear with me, not a fan of selfies!

Here's the secret (apparently):
  • It contains micro-oils and rich pigment (it is very pigmented, which I love)
  • It is considered "liquid lipcolor" as opposed to lipstick
  • It is also crease-resistant so it won't make your lips look 50 years older
Cheapest price I have found is Target for $7.99- $8.99, and Walgreens sometimes runs a buy one get one 50% off special. And no, I am not getting paid to say this, but hey L'Oreal, you know where I work, right?

Have you tried this? What is your favorite lip product?

  1. Interesting! I usually never, ever wear lipstick…I think my lips aren't shaped right or something…but I actually want to try this based on your description! I'll let you know Cheryl...

    1. Yes, please let me know! It is a gloss/lipstick hybrid, so a perfect transition for us non-lipstick wearers. Here is L'Oreal's instructions on how to best apply it: "Use the wand to apply starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to outer edges of your lips, following the contour of your mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip."
